A Severe Case of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) Being Conquered

A heartwarming moment with one of my Dutch patients here in the Netherlands. Big cheers to you Juul.

Words can simply not express how immensely proud of this incredibly courageous person. Up until five weeks ago, when I first met Juul in her darkened bedroom, where she had been for the last 3 1/2 years of her life, unable to shower or go outside of the room for a meal with her parents, all she had to hang onto was her hope that I could help her to become the person she knew was still in her somewhere.

Juul had not even been in a car for that whole period of time, so for her to get in the car to even come to the clinic in the Netherlands, where I was working, treating other very complex cases of ME/CFS and long Covid, was a huge task for her just in itself.

However, over the last five weeks, Juul displayed unbridled courage and faced up to high levels of emotional confrontations to pull herself away from the chains that were holding her back from being who she really is as a beautiful, highly intelligent human being.

Despite the sometimes darkest moments during the process, Juul was still able to laugh at my dad jokes through her tears.

I’m forever deeply grateful that I had the opportunity to work with this amazing human being who, by every indication, shows she’s going to contribute to a better world.

And the journey with Juul and me does not stop here.

Wishing everybody great wellness.

Please share this post to celebrate Juul.

Priceless images of Juul doing her incredible juggling act. Seen here with Mum Petra, Dad Marcel, and Aidan, who came over to the Netherlands to do the follow-up supporting weeks post the intensive therapy weeks with me.
